The announcement has received global media attention, but the reaction to the new “Oath” name has been mixed, with The Telegraph calling it one of the worst rebrandings in corporate history.
After the announcement, many domain industry blogs pointed out that Oath.com wasn’t owned by Verizon. Jamie Zoch (@Yofie) of DotWeekly pointed out that AOL had secured hundreds of domains related to Oath, but hadn’t bought Oath.com. This has now changed.
It looks as though Verizon have just acquired Oath.com from the World.com domain portfolio using the services of The Treadstone Group. The World.com portfolio is one of the best in existence, boasting names such as Revenue.com, Doctor.com and USA.com.
The Treadstone Group, who Verizon look to have employed to acquire this name, are a global IP acquisitions company that has been a part of many corporate domain acquisitions in the past.
No price has been revealed but it’s certainly a six, if not seven figure transaction.
