Fly.com Flies High To Be Year’s Biggest Sale to Date

Domain Name Journal logoTravelZoo sold the fly.com domain name for a whopping $2.89 million to easily be the biggest sale in 2017 to date to make it the 17th biggest sale ever recorded by Domain Name Journal and over $1 million higher than the previous biggest sale for the year, that of 01.com which sold for $1.82 million.

The domain name was sold to an unreported buyer and is currently operating as a pretty basic website for flights and travel bookings. TravelZoo bought the domain in 2009 for $1.76 million. The actual date of the sale was undisclosed.

Everything else for the week ending 30 April seems rather trivial on the sales chart. Sedo brokered the second and third biggest sales, that of piech.com and seacapital.com which sold for very handy amounts themselves – $79,000 and $49,000 respectively.

There 17 .com sales on the top 20 chart and one each for .net, .tv and .co.kr. On the aftermarket side of things, RightOfTheDot and NameJet released a large number of completed sales and took out 8 of the top 20 sales while Sedo had 7.
